See why UCLA has been called one of the best colleges for food in Americaposted on Aug. 19, 2014, at 2:30 a.m.
1. FEAST at Rieber
FEAST is one of the only university residential restaurants in the nation that specializes completely in Pan-Asian cuisine. The menu includes more than 1,100 recipes researched and developed by the UCLA Dining Services culinary team, with lots of student input.
2. Bruin Plate
Among the first health-themed dining halls in the country. Bruin Plate is focused more than ever on locally-sourced produce and meats from nearby farms, sustainable seafood, unprocessed and preservative-free items, organic foods, cage-free eggs, nutrient-packed ingredients, and expanded vegetarian and vegan options.
3. Kerckhoff Coffee House
Everyone knows this is the hippest coffee shop on campus. Whether it’s because of its central location or its gorgeous windows, there is almost always a line. It’s also important to note that students often perform in the evenings in Kerckhoff, and the back corner has Baskin-Robbins ice cream.
4. Greenhouse
Healthy eaters rejoice that there are healthy options that aren’t as far as the trek to Bruin Plate on The Hill. From a stocked salad, soup and fruit bar, hot foods include organic mac & cheese and baked tofu.
5. Il Tramezzino
Located on the edge of campus and in the middle of the Anderson School of Management, few other students know of this spot. But if you’re craving a good Panini or a tasty latte, this is the place to be. Not to mention, there’s plenty of outdoor seating right next to the nature preserve behind the school.
6. Untitled
Located in north campus, Untitled can be found in the lobby level of Broad Arts Center. The space features clean lines, minimal design and decorations with art students frequenting for a midday buzz.
7. Wolfgang Puck Express
Having opened early last fall in 2013, Wolfgang Puck is quickly becoming a favorite for finer dining at UCLA. With a bar and beautiful outdoor seating, it’s the perfect post-final treat.
8. Cafe Synapse
This secluded indoor/outdoor cafe located at the Gonda Research Center offers a breath a fresh-air, serving lunch and dinner specials featuring gourmet salads, pizzas, pastas, and sandwiches.
9. Curbside
This narrow shop is filled with freshly made and packaged sandwiches, salads and wraps, along with snacks and sweets to keep you going. Student or otherwise when you’re strapped for time, Curbside is just the place to make sure you can feed your belly before you feed your mind.
10. Fusion
Located in what was once known as the “Bombshelter” amongst students, the South Campus Student Center recently re-opened after extensive renovations. Fusion is a unique spot where UCLA students can try different fusion foods from banh mi sandwiches to lettuce wraps that change almost daily.
