When you think of wealthy L.A suburbs, you probably conjure images of Beverly Hills, Bel Air or San Marino.
But none of those places made NerdWallet's list of highest-earning communities in L.A. (Maybe that's because those Beverly Hills types just park their family's money somewhere and live off of it.)
The personal finance site's list is based on U.S. Census data that outlines median household income, individual worker income, and the poverty rate:
La Cañada Flintridge is No. 1, with a whopping $146,528 median household income, NerdWallet says.
No. 2 is Manhattan Beach, land of the pro-sports star, with a household take of $134,035. No. 3 Rancho Palos Verdes ($118,204) and No. 4 Calabasas are probably not big surprises either.

For No. 5 NerdWallet came up with Yorba Linda ($112,447), which is in Orange County.
The smartest 'burbs in greater L.A. might surprise you too, especially if you think that sun and surf somehow degrade one's brain cells.
Manhattan Beach is the "most educated" suburb in the metro area, NerdWallet says.
The site looked at rates of high school or higher and bachelor's or higher education. About three out of four Manhattan Beach residents had a bachelor's degree or greater, NerdWallet says.
Three familiar cities took places 2 through 4 in the education race: La Cañada Flintridge, Rancho Palos Verdes and Calabasas, respectively.
Another beach city took No. 5: Santa Monica.
