Zach Braff And Donald Faison Have An Amazing Offer For Gay Couples Getting Married In Indiana (IMAGE)
While Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act has brought about loads of bigotry, homophobic fundraisers, and offensive political commentary, it’s also shown that many Americans are willing to stand up for gay rights, and that most of us aren’t down with the narrow-minded views that helped pass that bill.
Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Rihanna have already spoken out against the anti-gay legislation, and a few other celebrities are taken a more hands-on approach – like “Scrubs” actors Zach Braff and Donald Faison.
Last week, Braff made a very special announcement in response to Memories Pizza, the first Indiana business to announce that it wouldn’t cater to same-sex weddings because it violated their “religious freedom.” On Twitter, Braff made an announcement that he and his co-star would be supporting gay couples, and literally lend a hand to any same-sex couple that was being discriminated against:
After Memories Pizza made their homophobic comments, they were buried in threats and made the decision to close the restaurant for a short period of time. Unfortunately, a crowdfunding campaign was launched by fellow bigots to support the disgraceful pizzeria, raising close to $1 million in just a few days. Right on their coat tails is anti-gay florist Barronelle Stutzman, who was recently fined $1,000 for refusing to provide service to a same-sex couple for their wedding. Following Memories Pizza’s unfortunate success, Stutzman’s GoFundMe campaign has pulled in nearly $90,000 in donations.
Recently, lesbian comedian Rosie O’Donnell has made a few jokes at the expensive of Memories Pizza, when she said:
“Remember the pizza lady was saying that gays were going to cater their wedding with pizza? Not even lesbians would do that.”
But for those who actually do want pizza at their wedding, it’s great to know that the “Scrubs” co-stars are willing to help make it happen!
Braff and Faison are just two more high-profile people joining the fight against homophobia and showing solidarity with the LGBT community. Recently, singer Cyndi Lauper raised over $65,000 with her #PizzaForEquality fundraiser. The Equality House, an LGBT-friendly building situated right across from hate group Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas, also raised funds for homeless LGBT youth with a “virtual pizza party.”
