Another year, another small iPhone update touted as "revolutionary" and "life-changing." Pssshhh. 4chan knows better than that. Time to "cook" up another scheme to reel in another "wave" of gullible iPhone users.
Last year, 4chan tricked iOS 7 users into thinking the OS update made their iPhones waterproof.

Via: MemebaseAnd weren't exactly happy with the results.

This year? Microwaves.
Via: imgurShortly after, enterprising shoopers whipped up this clever little infographic.

Next phase of the mission: make it popular.
Via: imgurReally popular.
Via: imgurNews outlets began to get wise to 4chan's ruse, but it was already too late.
Via: imgurAnd finally, the aftermath...

My god, people. Just because these people whom *happen* to have iPhones think fall for this doesn't make every single iPhone user stupid. Me for example: I think that I used to be gullible and I wouldn't fall for this crap! If there were hoaxes like this for Android/Windows/Blackberry/ANY OTHER KIND OF PHONE, some people would fall for it too! Not every iPhone user is stupid, and not every stupid person uses an iPhone (not counting people who don't own a cellphone). Do all of you pathetic people have nothing better to do than belittle others? If you ask me, you're the stupid ones. Before you leave an angry (or some other emotion) reply, no, I'm not an "Apple cultist," I just want to beat common sense into your brain. I'm all for equality, even if I become what I'm trying to stop. There's no specific group of people who are stupid (unless that group of people is just stupid people). Every group of people has someone stupid (unless it's smart people) and someone smart. Let's just go with that, okay? Is shutting up for once too much to ask of you people?

Just goes to show you that Apple targets morons who don't know anything about the nature of the technology they (Apple) sell.
You can tell an Apple customer anything, and they'll readily believe it. Especially since they are so impossibly smug that the reason for all that gullibility is the fact they think Apple products are just the greatest.

My coworker told me that an Apple "Genius" told her that the iPhone doesn't have a battery like "other phones".
She believed him 100% and even tried to argue me on the point finally conceding defeat with a "Yeah, whatever".
Yes, your iPhone is powered solely by magic and smugness.

I don't think anyone is questioning whether it is possible to harness microwaves to produce electricity. More the feasibility. Even if a smartphone is properly equipped to do so, I don't see any smartphone of the near future not frying from being bombarded by a ~1 kilowatt microwave.
Here's some perspective: My Samsung Galaxy S5 charger has a maximum operating output voltage of 5.3 volts and output current of 2.0 amps. 5.3volts*2.0amps equals 10.6 watts. I'm sure iPhones and other smart phones are comparable.
Can't really pump 100 times the amount of energy per second that your device is rated to charge at and not expect something to go wrong regardless of the method. If someone handed you a modified charger rated at 10 times the voltage and 10 times the current, would you use it?
Edit: I did some maths wrong, but the correct maths just further prove my point.
