15 years to double starting salary



It takes an average of 15 years to double an employee’s starting salary, analysis shows.

Job Korea, an online job portal, analyzed the employment and salary information of nearly two million workers in 2012.

The average salary for a new recruit was 28.47 million won, and after 15 years of employment, the average was 57 million won.

It takes five years to earn more than 30 million won, nine years for a salary over 40 million, 11 years for 50 million, and 17 years for 70 million.

After 17 years, most workers are promoted to managerial positions.

Once an employee works for 26 years, his/her salary drops an average 5.7 percent from 83 million won to 78 million.

The data comes from more than 1,000 major companies (45.6 percent), small-medium enterprises (44.3 percent), public enterprises (7.5 percent), and foreign companies (2.6 percent).

    직장인이 경력 15년차가 되면 신입사원 시절 받은 연봉의 2배를 받는다는 분석결과가 나왔다. 
    취업포털 잡코리아는 연봉통계 서비스에 등록된 2012년 연봉정보 199만2천255건을 경력 연차와 직급별로 분석한 결과 이같이 집계됐다고 1일 밝혔다.
    연차별 평균 연봉은 경력 1년차 직장인이 2천847만원이고, 15년차가 5천701만원으로 신입사원 연봉의 두 배를 받는 것으로 나타났다. 
    3천만원대 연봉을 받으려면 5년차(3천89만원)에 접어들어야 하고, 4천만원대는 9년차(4천189만원), 5천만원대는 11년차(5천50만원), 7천만원대는 17년차(7천146만원)가 돼야하는 것으로 조사됐다.
    경력 17년차에 연봉이 급격하게 높아지는 이유는 많은 직장인이 이 시기에 부장급 이상의 관리자로 승진하기 때문이라는 게 잡코리아의 설명이다.
    평균 연봉이 상승 곡선을 그리다 정점을 찍고 낮아지는 시점은 경력 27년차(7천865만원)로, 연봉이 가장 높은 26년차(8천338만원)보다 연봉이 5.7% 낮아졌다. 이때가 정년을 앞둔 시기이기 때문이라고 잡코리아는 분석했다. 
    잡코리아 연봉통계 서비스는 직장인이 직접 기재한 연봉과 국내 연봉정보 사이트 '하우머니'의 데이터베이스를 기반으로 작성됐다. 소속기업 분포는 1000대기업(45.6%)·중소기업(44.3%)·공기업(7.5%)·외국계기업(2.6%) 등이다.
