Job Korea, an online job portal, analyzed the employment and salary information of nearly two million workers in 2012. The average salary for a new recruit was 28.47 million won, and after 15 years of employment, the average was 57 million won. It takes five years to earn more than 30 million won, nine years for a salary over 40 million, 11 years for 50 million, and 17 years for 70 million. After 17 years, most workers are promoted to managerial positions. Once an employee works for 26 years, his/her salary drops an average 5.7 percent from 83 million won to 78 million. The data comes from more than 1,000 major companies (45.6 percent), small-medium enterprises (44.3 percent), public enterprises (7.5 percent), and foreign companies (2.6 percent).
