A recent study showed that Koreans are the most widespread diaspora in the world as of 2011, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported.
Korea had over 7.26 million people settled in 175 countries across the globe, according to the Overseas Korean Foundation. While China had a significantly larger diaspora, 45.4 million people, they were spread across just 130 countries.

The release of the study coincided with the 110^th anniversary of the first batch of Koreans immigrating to the United States.
In the past four decades, the number of people emigrating overseas from Korea has increased by almost 10 times. In 1972, only 728,000 people had left Korea to settle in another country, but by 2011 the number jumped to 7.3 million people.
China has been the most popular destination for Koreans looking to leave the motherland and the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimates that 2.7 million Koreans live in China. The second most popular country for Koreans is the United States with 2.18 million people.
It has been 150 years since the first group of Korean emigrants crossed into Russia and settled there. The group consisted of 13 farming families from the northernmost border of Korea around Kyonghung County in North Hamgyong Province.

1 in 3 South Koreans Racially Intolerant, Survey Shows

Recently compiled data finds the South Korea is a more racially intolerant nation in comparison to its neighboring countries, Japan and China, which runs contrary to the profile of prosperous nations. According to a report in the Washington Post, two Swedish economists set out to determine whether or not economic freedom correlated with racial prejudice. But in order to somehow quantify such abstract data, the duo sought the help of the World Values Survey, ”which has been measuring global attitudes and opinions for decades.” A study carried out by World Values asked participants from 80 different countries to identify from a list various types of people they would not want as neighbors. Some respondents selected “people of a different race,” and the more frequently citizens of a country responded as such, the country was viewed as less racially tolerant. …

1 in 5 Koreans in Their 20s Will Never Marry, Study Says

One out of five people in their 20s in Korea will end up being single for life, according to a report by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. The study stated that if present trends continue, 23.8 percent of Korean men in their 20s and 18.9 percent of women in their 20s will end up single until the age of 45. According to the Chosun Ilbo, the age of marriage among Koreans has risen from 28.8 in 1998 to 32.1 last year for men and from 26 to 29.4 for women. Demographers assume that if a person stays single until 45, they will never marry, especially since most women cannot have children after that age. The study is just the latest in a long line of sobering statistics for South Korea’s demographic problems. As fewer men and women are getting married or marry late, the low birthrate is expected to shrink the labor force and depress economic growth. …

South Korea Dethroned for World’s Fastest Internet

It is well known that South Korea is the world’s most wired country. Blazing fast Internet speeds while you’re traveling underground on the subway is more of a right than a privilege. More Overseas Koreans Enlist in ROK Army

Korean citizens living abroad are enlisting in the South Korean army in increasing numbers, the Korea Times reports. South Korean enlistees who are classified as permanent residents overseas, including U.S. green card holders, have surpassed 1,000 in the last six years, according to the Korean government.
