Jeju Island is a notable tourist attraction with beautiful scenery and tasty sea foods. In addition, the splendid architecture of the buildings created by some of the world’s renowned architects is now becoming a popular attraction in the region.
Now, we will introduce to you some of the awesome buildings that you may visit during your trip to Jeju Island. Please pay attention if you are planning to make a trip to Jeju Island.
Jeju’s Beautiful Architecture #1. Glass House – Ando Tadao

Glass House is a structure built by world famous architect Ando Tadao. It is said that it was built in line with Jeju’s architecture globalization protect. Just as its name suggests, Glass House is surrounded by glass, which seems as if it is opening its arms wide to embrace the sea in Jeju. There is a restaurant on the second floor, where people can enjoy their meal while watching the landscape of Jeju’s sea and Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. Glass House is located near Seopjikoji. We recommend you visit the place while taking a tour around Seopjikoji.

One more piece by Ando Tadao in Jeju! It is Genius Loci. Since Genius Loci is located right next to Glass House, you should visit both places. Genius Loci is a meditation center where you can fully enjoy nature. You may get to know the aesthetic of moderation in architecture at this spot.
Jeju’s Beautiful Architecture #2. Church of Sky – Itami Jun

“Sky of Church” in Jeju Ilsand was built by Itami Jun, a Korean Japanese architect. Inspired by Noah’s Ark in the bible, the church has been built on water. Due to the beautiful exterior of the church, Sky of Church is visited by many people regardless of their religion. Unlike other general churches, the cross is not set high on the roof. So, you may not know that it is actually a church if you are not informed about it. Sky of Church is a church where church services are held, so don’t forget to be quiet when you visit the place.
Jeju’s Beautiful Architecture #3. Lotte Art Villas – Five globally renowned architects

Lotte Art Villas consist of five blocs from Building A to Building E. Some of the best and most influential architects in the world participated in the project. A Bloc was built by architect Seung Hyo-sang; it has been built in such a way that it embraces the beautiful scenery of jeju and people can wholly feel the atmosphere and season of Jeju. B Bloc was built by Dominique Perrault, and it captures the sea, wave and water bubbles of Jeju Island. Lee Jong-ho built C bloc, of which the extended quadrangle-shaped modern compartment is the key to the design.

In addition, D bloc was designed and built by Ken Gokuma, and it captures well the sunrise of Jeju, which is a wonderful sight. Also, even its black rooftop, which was made with the region’s basalt, fully embraces the mood of Jeju. The last bloc, E Bloc, was designed by DA Global Group, Korea’s renowned architecture studio. It looks onto the scenery of Mt. Hallay and the Korean traditional patchwork pattern is said to be the key trait of the building.
Jeju’s Beautiful Architecture #4. Agora – Mario Botta

Agora, last but not least, is an architecture built by Swiss architect Mario Botta, who is known as a master of contemporary architecture. Mario Botta is a renowned architect who has many links with Korea due to his past works that include “Kyobo Building”, the landmark building in Gangnam, and Samsung Museum of Art “Leeum”.
Agora is a unique building with the rooms set up in the basement and a glass pyramid projected on the ground. On the ceiling inside the building, there is a gigantic stainless ball called “Gwangpungjewol”, made by Ahn Jong-yeon, the installation artist. Gwangpungjewol makes Agora even more mysterious as the light that penetrates through the pyramid is refracted by the ball.
